The Preliminary Round matches of the FINA Women’s World League at Syracuse, Italy started with some surprising results and line-ups as all four teams are missing key players or even their complete top squad. Germany beat Hungary by five goals, 13-8, to achieve the first victory ever against two-time World champion Hungary. In the second match of the openin day Italy’s U19 squad gained a 12-6 victory against Spain.
The second Preliminary Round of the European teams are held at Volos, Greece. Here Russia took a narrow 9-8 victory against Great Britain. In the second match Greece gained a 7-4 victory against the Netherlands.
